Fir Tree Quilting provides a range of services including longarm quilting, basting and binding.
Having learned to sew at primary school, I dabbled with various crafts over the years. A sampler class at a local quilt store drew me back to sewing and my 'stash' was born! I became aware of longarm quilting machines through American quilting magazines, did some research and decided to give it a go. I have been providing hand-guided longarm quilting to customers from across the UK since 2008, and I have so far basted or quilted over 1000 quilts in a wide range of sizes and styles — have a look through the Gallery.
I love seeing the quilt tops my customers bring, never knowing what to expect and getting to see and touch gorgeous fabrics at the same time, and some of the finished quilts are now being used in America, Africa and Australia. Some of my repeat customers are very experienced quilters, but new quilters are always welcome.
With all the quilts I receive, my aim is that the quilting compliments the quilt.
For those of you wishing to hand or machine quilt your quilt yourself, this service saves you the effort of pinning or tacking the layers together first. I stitch a 4"-grid of easily removable stitches that securely hold your quilt top, wadding and backing together. Use my Price Your Quilt tool for an estimated basting fee.
This service offers a 1/4" finished width straight-grain double-fold continuous binding with mitred corners.
You should provide sufficient 42" wide fabric, uncut; I am happy to advise on the amount of fabric required and the Price my Quilt tool calculates an estimate.
Two levels of service are offered:
- Machine stitched to quilt front only:
£1.55 / linear foot
- Machine stitched to quilt top and hand finished on reverse:
£2.75 / linear foot
